About Coatingpedia
Why Coatingpedia exists, how articles are written and how to use the information responsibly.
Coatingpedia is a free, independent encyclopedia of protective and industrial coatings — built to make a technical, high-stakes field easier to learn, specify and inspect.
Why we built it
Coatings protect bridges, ships, pipelines, floors and the factories that make almost everything else. Yet the knowledge behind them is scattered across product data sheets, paywalled standards and decades of field experience. Coatingpedia brings the fundamentals together in one place, written clearly and designed to be a pleasure to read.
Editorial standards
- Neutral. Articles describe generic chemistries and methods, not brands.
- Grounded in standards. We reference the ISO, ASTM and AMPP (SSPC/NACE) documents professionals actually use.
- Ranges, not false precision. Coating performance varies by formulation, so we give typical ranges and point you to the product data sheet.
- Living documents. Articles are reviewed and updated as standards and technology change.
Use the information responsibly
Coatingpedia is an educational reference. It is not a specification and does not replace the manufacturer’s product data sheet, safety data sheet, project specification or the judgment of a qualified coatings professional or inspector.
